What’s Going On With Facebook And Twitter

by Penny Jacobi on Jul.29, 2010, under multimedia

A few years ago, Twitter was offered a buy out deal from Facebook. However, the company was hoping for more money in the deal, and chose to hold off until a better offer came along.

So what Facebook decided to do instead was to roll an account updating system that mirrors Twitter in many respects. This move boosted Facebook’s popularity tremendously, and people have been loving it since.

Twitter now needs to find a way to generate some revenue if it still wants to remain a player, especially now that Facebook has grown so much and perhaps may still buy Twitter.

Twitter has some serious cash flow problems, and generating revenue hasn’t brought in the money they really need. Twitter is growing too, but they may disappear if they do not find a solution to get some more funds deposited into their bank account.

On the other hand, Facebook doesn’t seem to have any problems making money as well as targeting their advertising to produce good results.

Twitter does not really have the platform to be considered a credible enhancement to how we communicate and network. While it is fun to update what you are doing, most people can care less, so it really makes Twitter pointless.

Both services share one common issue, and that is that a lot of people can care less about reading the details of everybody else’s life throughout the day, but Facebook offers more than just posts.

People are thinking that Twitter really doesn’t have much staying power in its present form, and that perhaps it may be a better idea to sell for as much as they can get now.

One of these days, people are going to collectively wake up and discover that there is more to life than reading about the lives of everybody else. So, the smartest move to make is to rake in the money now and find ways to be a viable and needed service in the future.

The Best Decade’s Most Unforgettable Adventure Films

by Todd Miller on Jul.27, 2010, under multimedia

When I think of action movies, I think of the 1990s. Films starring action icons like Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Nicholas Cage set the tone for the action films today. This was before the John Cena’s and Jason Stathams. This was a time when action movies were at their finest.

There were many great action movies to be released in the 90s, but the following are some of my favorites.

The first film I have to mention is the 2nd Terminator film, T2: Judgement Day. Arnold is at his best in T2 and the T1000 was one of the scariest villains I remember from my childhood.

True Lies, also directed by James Cameron was another epic action movie. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a secret agent and Jamie Lee Curtis as the oblivious wife, this movie personifies 1990s action. Explosions, helicopters, airplanes oh my.

Ironically, a film that spoofed all the action movies of the 90s ended up being one of my favorites. Of course, I am talking about Hot Shots: Part Deux. I have incredibly fond memories of this film and any time it is on (which is very rare), I feel the need to watch it.

When it comes to watching a 90s action flick with my buddies from high school, there is no movie we would rather watch than The Rock. Everything about this movie is awesome. I am not always a fan of Michael Bay’s work but he delivered with this one.

One other fantastic action film, also starring Cage, is Con Air. Nicholas Cage stars as Cameron Powe, a wrongfully accused ex-marine who is almost free to get back to his wife (played by Monica Potter) and his daughter who has never even met. All he has to do first is get through Steve Buscemi and John Malkovich, which is harder than it sounds.

I’ll include Armageddon on this list as well, even though I hate to admit how much I love this movie. Yes, its cheesy, but very enjoyable.

The Best Movies For Big Time Laughs From The Past Few Years

by Randy Stevens on Jul.17, 2010, under multimedia

Over the past few years there have been some brilliant comedies. Funny movies are tough to predict at the box office, because so much of it depends on word of mouth and star power does not always equal a hit. It has to be the right combination of script writing, directing, casting and positive buzz.

Here are some of the best comedies to be released in the past ten years.

It would be foolish to make a list of funny films from recent years and not include The Hangover. Even if you did not find it as funny as most, you cannot argue with the $270 million it grossed at the domestic box office. People loved this movie, and with good reason.

When it comes to comedy, one of the biggest names over the past decade is Judd Apatow. Whether he is directing, producing or writing the script, his movies have for the most part performed extremely well. Knocked Up is a film of his that I really enjoy, because while it is very funny, it also tackles serious subject matter and manages to find a great balance.

Even though it seems like forever ago, Old School hit theatres in 2003 and won college students over quickly. This film was considered by many a modern Animal House and was quite possibly the best Will Ferrell movie we have ever seen. Works of an Old School 2 have been rumored for a long time now, but supposedly it is happening.

Another awesome film was Role Models. Sean William Scott has been relatively quiet since his role as Stiffler (even though he has definitely gotten work), but this film was a breath of fresh air. Paul Rudd is always hilarious and this duo was great to watch as mentors for troubled youngsters.

Wedding Crashers is another film that I find hilarious. For some reason, any time this film is on, I cannot seem to turn it off. Even if its five minutes in and it’s late on a work night, I still feel the need to watch this one.

So these are just some of the many hilarious films to be released in recent memory. More to come.

A Guide On Car Stereo System’s

by Jordan May on Jul.17, 2010, under multimedia

A high end sound system can really be a great investment in a car if you’re into music. However, with so many different stereo systems and features available these days, there are several key components to include. In this guide, I’ll share with you some of the things you need to know before heading out to purchase a new sound system for your car.

Of course finding the right speakers are crucial in any sound system. If full range speakers aren’t in your budget at the time, then I suggest holding off until you can buy full range speakers. Try speakers that aren’t full range and compare them to full range speakers and you’ll clearly see the difference.

If you’ve done any research, you know that a subwoofer is also important. It’s even more important for those of you who enjoy a deep bass. A quality subwoofer will guarantee that the deep tones are delivered properly. Subwoofers are usually found under the seats in the back or in a trunk.

Sirius radio or any other sort of satellite radio can provide your sound system with different styles of music for your enjoyment. In fact, you can choose from any type of music genre out there. Satellite radio will guarantee that any of your passengers are satisfied with the style of music (as long as you give them any say!).

For even more options to choose from, bring your own tunes into the car. The old fashion way is via CDs, but you’re now able to upload music from a flash drive to your stereo. You’ll need a control panel installed in the car, which can support a USB port. Now you can make your own play lists, instead of having to switch CDs.

Amplifiers can be quite costly, but they’re imperative in any quality sound system. You’re system won’t be able to provide the power without a proper amp. With a quality amp, you’re system will have no problem handling the output voltage.

For each of these components the price does vary, but on the lower end you can find amps, subwoofers and speakers all starting around $50. Of course you get what you pay for. Amps can cost up to $1,000 and more, while speakers typically cost up to $400 on the higher end. Sub-woofers can cost up to $700.

Always make sure to take your time when shopping around for speakers. There are many options to choose from, but all of these features mentioned above should always be included.

Answers To Your Questions Concerning Cable Modems

by Patrick Falker on Jul.13, 2010, under multimedia

What exactly are cable modems and how are they used? Have you ever wondered? Do you plan to purchase one because you are going to get high-speed internet access? If you’ve only heard about cable modems recently, then here are facts that you should know about these devices.

In order to get high-speed internet access, you will need a cable modem. A cable modem connects your cable wire and your computer. The cable wire transports internet data to the cable modem, which then sends it to the computer.

To get into more detail, a cable connection is made up of a coaxial cable. A coax cable, for short, has the ability to transports a large amount of data. Thus, it can be used to transport not only cable television but internet data as well. The role of the cable modem is to distinguish between the cable signal and the internet signal. It then takes the internet signal and transforms it to a digital signal. A computer only understands digital signals.

Cable modems are available online, in computer stores, or you can purchase one from your cable provider. If you read the classified ads, you might notice there are used cable modems for sale too – not recommended though.

How much does a cable modem cost? Although it’s actually not that expensive, if you’re conscious about cost and quality then it’s a good idea to go online and look for price comparisons. There are low-end as well as high-end cable modems. What you select will be up to your needs as well as your budget

One way to get an idea of the quality of a cable modem is to read product reviews. Make sure you get your reviews from a reliable source, however. Lots of product reviews result from people who were paid to say something positive about a product.

A more reliable source to get an idea of quality is to read reviews from consumer magazines. Forums are also a good source of information.

So now that cable modems are not a mystery, hopefully you can now find the cable modem that works best for you.

In addition to cable modems, this author additionally frequently gives advice about brown kraft paper bag and paper bags suppliers.

Christian Bale’s Best Acting Performances In Recent Memory

by Aaron Samford on Jul.08, 2010, under multimedia

When it comes to versatile male actors in Hollywood these days, there are only a few. Daniel Day Lewis is the king; Leonardo Di Caprio is great, as is Johnny Depp. But another fantastic actor that was overlooked until recently is Christian Bale.

Here are some of my favorite Christian Bale movies.

While Batman Begins was great, The Dark Knight was even better. With an all star cast and a legendary performance by Heath Ledger, Christian Bale’s performance was overshadowed. Ledger created one of the best villains in Hollywood history, but Bale did a pretty great job with Bruce Wayne as well.

In another film involving deception and playing two sides, Christian Bale was incredible in The Prestige. You never know until the end of this movie whether or not he is a good guy, which I cannot even imagine how hard that is to do. He stole the show from Hugh Jackman.

In The Machinist, Bale plays Trevor Reznik, an emaciated insomniac who is not sure what is real and what is not. His controversial weight loss (reportedly 70 pounds) for this role redefined commitment to a role. Think Memento meets Thinner.

Based on the book of the same name, Bale plays Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, a psychopathic New York investment banker in the 80s. This movie has as many memorable lines as any for me.

Inspired by a true story, in Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn, Christian Bale plays an imprisoned US pilot during the Vietnam War who plans an escape into the jungles of Laos. Sufficed to say, he lost a ton of weight for this movie as well.

Finally, 3:10 to Yuma was another fantastic performance by Christian Bale. A good western is hard to come by these days, but Bale and Russell Crowe managed to pull it off.

The Best Television Series To Watch Reruns Of

by Jason Finn on Jul.07, 2010, under multimedia

While a lot of episodes of television shows can only be watched once, there are number of shows that retain their brilliance and humor throughout repeat viewing. The following list contains some television shows that I cannot get enough of, even if I have seen the episodes before.

The Simpsons is on most people’s lists of top 10 favorite shows. There is a reason it has been on for 20 seasons and shows no signs of throwing in the towel. I used to videotape every episode I could, however I did not know that DVD box sets were going to exist!

Seinfeld – There’s a reason its on television like 50 times a day. Everyone loves Seinfeld, and even more than 10 years after it has been off the air it remains one of the most popular shows.

Entourage – Quick and easy. This show is just a good time and usually only lasts about 24 minutes. The jokes come quick and the episodes are lighthearted. It is an incredibly easy show to watch with a fast lunch.

Another great show to watch old episodes of is Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. As long as you don’t know the answers to the questions being asked, it is very entertaining.

The Office is a great show that retains its value after multiple viewings. I think this is due to the fact that while it technically is chronological, that doesn’t really matter. Every episode is funny, but the earlier seasons are the best.

Fresh Prince – Will Smith in his glory days. This is still hilarious show to watch and it’s amazing to see where he came from and where he ended up. The Carlton dance never gets old.

If you are part of the female audience, another show that you can watch over and over is Friends. All girls seem to like this show, and if you are a guy, you should know it isn’t half bad.

Besides television, this author also regularly contributes articles about designer sofas and recliner sofas.

A Few Of The Biggest Flashes In The Pan From The 1990s Pop Music

by Adam Alston on Jun.30, 2010, under multimedia

I loved the music of the 90’s and still do today. It was the decade that saw the arrival of so many bands that became huge successes such as Radiohead and Green Day, which are still huge even today.

But, there were those bands that after having wowed us with their number one hit, suddenly disappeared into the abyss quicker than they had first emerged, like the saying goes, they entered in like a bolt of lightning but flew out like the wind.

These are formally known as one hit wonders and no one can ever remember the bands names only the title of the hit songs, for obvious reasons.

Remember the song Breakfast At Tiffany’s? People went crazy over that song for months, as it sat near the top of the charts. Can you remember the name of this band?

Don’t worry if you don’t remember, not many people do for the simple reason that this band never had the same success with any other song after that one. They were called Deep Blue Something and they, as a band, were one of the more famous one hit wonders of the 90’s.

Try another one, “The Way” which was a hit during the late 90’s and loved by many. This one actually still gets played even today but the band never managed to make another song as good at that one.

The Rembrandts, they are my third temporary sensation to make the list. Their hit song is played and listened to every day and many people wouldn’t even be able to put the name of the band to the hit song.

Their hit song, I’ll Be There For You, was so popular and so catchy that the hit TV show Friends decided to use it as their theme song. This band also faded into obscurity shortly after the success of this hit.

Now that the 2000’s have ended there shall be a new list of one hit wonders emerging, but who will be on it?

Besides music, this author additionally frequently writes regarding grass-fed meat and meat saw blades.

Interesting Shows On TV That You Will Surely Enjoy

by Adrienne Burns on Jun.26, 2010, under multimedia

Television has been a great entertainment medium for many years. But there are a lot of people that think that there is nothing much of interest on television nowadays, and tend to switch it off to do other things instead. But there are lots of interesting shows that can still teach us things. Let’s have a look at some of them.

There is the detective show Psych. This guy has a photographic memory and is very quick on the uptake, but he pretends that he is psychic to solve crimes for the police.

Not only is this an entertaining show but it can also get you thinking as it goes along, testing out your detection skills.

Another good show is Super Nanny, shown on the ABC network. This has Super Nanny Jo Frost trying to educate parents of unruly kids as to how to control them properly.

The parents allow Super Nanny in to their homes, and let her get to work on their unruly kids. She dishes out advice on how they should handle the kids, but without harsh punishments and without screaming at them.

Factual shows that improve people’s self esteem are another type of show on TV today. What not to wear concentrates on people with little or no fashion sense and teaches them how they should dress to make them feel and look better.

So many shows can teach us how to make ourselves look and feel better than we do. Confidence and self esteem can have a profound effect on the rest of our lives.

My personal favorites, which by the way are not suitable for the kids, are shows such as NCIS, the three C.S.I shows and Law and Order. These shows give us an insight into how our justice system works as well as teaching us how many different crimes are solved.
