5 Secrets To Staying At Home And Making Money On The Internet
by Rich Trewheart on Feb.25, 2010, under web design
“Form follows function” is a dictum first postulated by the famous architect, Louis Sullivan. His advice is still valid today and can be used on your website(s) to improve the sales conversion rate. Many people have pretty websites that don’t convince people to buy their product. This is because they haven’t considered how to design the website to elicit the response they want. This report will outline 5 easy steps to correct that problem. It is part of an much longer free report that gives 25 easy steps that can make your website a superstar.
1 – Using one color, one font and one text size is boring. Once a reader gets bored, they leave and they don’t come back. Using bright contrasting colors with varied font styles and text sizes creates interest and people will stay longer on your site and read more of the information. It’s a fact that people don’t read web pages, they scan them. If they get bored or don’t quickly get the information they want, they’re gone. Using color and multiple text styles will keep them longer and give you more opportunities to sell them on your product.
2 – Give people a reason to buy – today. Everybody loves a “deal” and people on the internet are no different. You have to provide more value and one way to do that is add a “free bonus” or a “one time offer” or a discount that expires in 12 hours or something that sweetens the deal. Why does an appliance dealer advertise the “red tag special?” Because it works. Obviously using any, or all, of these offers won’t result in a 100% sales conversion. Nothing will do that. But if you combine these ideas, you will get more buyers and make more money.
3 – People are inherently mistrustful of buying on the internet. They have heard about scams and may have been a victim of one themselves. You have to gain their trust quickly. One way to to this is to make it easy for them to contact you. Some internet marketers are outsourcing a customer service phone or offering “instant chat” to make their potential customers feel that there is a person on the other end of the web page. Using testimonial from happy customers is also a great way to make your potential customers trust that your product will solve their problem.
4 – Stick with the familiar. Have on your page things that people know. For example, having a Paypal option allows people who have used Paypal to feel more comfortable about buying from you. If your product has any write-ups in magazines or newspapers or if you can put “As Seen on TV” on your web page will add credibility and trust.
5 – Always Be Testing! Micro test and split test everything. This is the only way to incrementally improve your sales. It’s not hard to do. Try one landing page with a blue background and another with an orange background. Is there any difference in sales? If so, keep the one that works and try another color. Does that one work better? If not, try another color. Also try using different words. Does “Buy Today” work better than “Buy Now?” Just remember always be testing.

5 Secrets To Making Internet Sales
by Rich Trewheart on Sep.02, 2009, under web design
Most web pages are designed to get the reader to do something. What that something is will help you determine how to design your web page. In other words: Make sure your design leads naturally into persuading the reader of your web page into taking the action you want him or her to take. The great architect, Louis Sullivan said it clearly that “form follows function.” This article will assume that you want your web page to sell something. Perhaps you have no web page right now or you have one but it isn’t converting enough sales and you want to improve its performance. I have a much longer report about designing effective sales pages, and this article will discuss 5 of the techniques that will make any sales page on the web perform better.
1 – Use various fonts and colors. Using one color and one font is boring. Bored people don’t buy, they leave. Use bright vibrant colors and multiple font styles and text sizes to capture interest and guide the reader’s eye to the part you want them to read. Use color, shading and font size to make the “buy button” stand out on the page. Have several buy buttons on the page so that the reader has multiple opportunities to buy. Since most people don’t read a web page (they scan it) you must make their scanning more effective and that’s what color and font can do for you.
2 – Make it easy to buy today and give your reader a reason to do so. Many successful marketers, both on the internet and in a bricks-and-mortar store, use special bonuses, free giveaways, one time offers, one day discounts, and other things that prod the buyer to buy today. Why does a mattress store offer free delivery or a set of free sheets, pillow cases and a comforter? Because all these things make the “good deal” on the mattress even better and give the buyer one more reason to buy. Your website must do the same. 100% sales conversion is impossible, but if you can improve your conversion by 10% or 20% you will make more money. Special incentives can help you do that.
3 – People who don’t trust you will never buy from you. Everybody is nervous about being scammed on the internet. You must gain their trust right away. There are many ways to do this. For example, have a “contact me” button that’s easy to find and if someone contacts you get right back to them. Another method is the “happy customer testimonial.” If you sell an acne cream and you have a quote from someone who used your product, such as “I tried Zits-Be-Gone and in just two weeks my acne was a bad memory” signed Trina Teenager you will be amazed at how this one change can improve your sales conversions.

3 – Reassure your customer before and after they buy. Most people are naturally skeptical of something being offered for sale on the internet. They have heard about scam artists who take money and never provide the product, or the product is useless and they can’t get a refund, etc. To be successful, you have to overcome this mistrust. There are several ways to do this. First – make it easy to find you. Have a “contact me” button and respond immediately if someone emails you (even an auto-response will do). Then do a human response within 24 hours or less. Don’t delay. Every minute you delay builds your potential customers’ mistrust and if they are in the market to buy something, your delay gives them an opportunity to buy it from someone else. Be sure to get testimonials from other customers, simple things like, “I bought this rhinestone dog collar for my poodle and now shes the prettiest dog on the block” signed by Suzy Customer, will break down barriers and create trust. Once a person buys, get the thank you email out to them right away
4 – Always seem familiar. In other words, on your web page try to use words, colors and phrases that seem like other successful marketers. Look at other big sites and try to mimic them. If you look like Amazon in feel, color and usability, people who are familiar with Amazon will be more comfortable buying from you, even though you’re obviously not Amazon. Also use logos that people recognize. For example, give them the option of paying through Paypal or Google Checkout. These things will add credibility to your page and your offer.
5 – Always Be Testing! Micro test and split test everything. This is the only way to incrementally improve your sales. It’s not hard to do.
