Elements Of Good Law Web Design

by Barb Rasmussen on Apr.01, 2010, under web design

In Law web design, perhaps more than in many other professions and businesses, the image that the site design projects is of paramount importance. It may, in fact, be as important as the site’s content. A good web designer understands this and focuses on the psychological aspects of his design more than the creative aspects.

The worst thing a start-up lawyer or law firm can do is to try to save money by making their own website, even if it’s from a template. Templates and homemade sites always look like they have been made on a budget. It’s not in a lawyer’s interests to project a shoddy or cheap image.

An equally egregious error would be to allow a young web designer with no experience the opportunity to show off his skills with a flashy website. Lawyers in general have a conservative image, so a conservative design is what is called for.

Good legal web designers usually pick muted colors over bright, primary colors. Some examples of their color palette include blue-greys, olive green and brown. As a general rule, they stick with black and white for the text pages, because it is easy on the eyes and is like a legal document.

There is greater scope for creativity in the choice of photographs, as long as they have some relationship to the image the law firm is trying to convey. Photographs of the legal team are acceptable, as long as they are formal and the lawyers look alert and intelligent. Greek columns are very popular, because they reflect the seriousness of the profession and the ideals of democracy and justice. Another popular choice is large and impressive office buildings. Ideally, the building should be either the one the firm is located in or at least reflective of the firm’s clientele.

Family law practitioners often like to include photos of a happy family in their layout. This reflects their desire to restore happiness and order to their clients’ lives.

The designer of a Miami, Florida lawyer’s website added a distinctive touch by including a prominent photo of a Miami Beach lifeguard tower on her homepage. While the photo was not as conservative as most, it worked because a lifeguard tower symbolizes safety as well as the Miami Beach lifestyle.

In the final analysis, the web design is there to attract potential clients and make them want to know more about the firm. That’s where the content comes in. The homepage should not be overly wordy. In fact, a couple of hundred words in a couple of succinct paragraphs works better than a long-winded homepage. It’s also important to make sure the reader doesn’t have to search for the contact details, especially the phone number and email address.

Although it may seem that Law Web Design doesn’t allow much scope for creativity, it does. If you stick to these basic elements and remember who you’re making the site for, you can make something truly unique.

Eliminating The Irritating Flaws To Create The Best Designed Websites

by Stephanie Dawson on Mar.28, 2010, under web design

Everyone sees beauty from their very own perspective. When creating a quality web design however, you must make certain that you are able to satisfy your customers perception of what beauty is as well.

The job of a website designer is one that is often two fold. A website designer is responsible for creating great designs as well as avoiding creating designs that are not attractive to the majority. This is sometimes difficult if a client insists in some of the irritating aspects of website designing.

Some of you may not be sure what I am talking about when I refer to irritating, so I have compile a list to explain further.

Pop Ups:

Pop up windows are number one on my list even though some marketers have found it to be effective. I personally have not spoken to anyone that likes annoying pop ups on their computer screen.

Loud Flash Presentations:

Flash headers can sometimes bring a website to life and catch a visitors attention. The problem I have with flash presentations are the loud ones that do not give you the option to turn the music off. The customer should always have the choice of whether they want to hear your music or not.

Light Colored Fonts With A Similar Background:

Using a light text color with a light background is really hard to read. A customer should not have to work their eyes too hard to read your content.

Fonts That Are Too Big:

Big fonts are a big turn off in my book. Whenever I land on a website with big fonts, I generally turn the page quickly. It generally makes me feel like I am reading a Sesame Street book.

To Much Going On:

Good content on a website is encouraged by many as well as the search engines. The problem with having too much content is when it is unorganized. A good way to solve this issue is by using drop down menus with multiple pages.

Creating quality web designs takes a lot of consideration. You must take into account what your targeted visitors may or may not like. In the end, the best designed websites are the ones that are moderate and incorporate everyone.

Stephanie Dawson is an experienced and creative website graphic designer with a BA in Computer Information Systems and Master in Technology. Stephanie takes pride in creating the best designed websites that caters to her clients needs, she also specializes in web design for law firms.

How To Avoid Irritating Design Flaws In Your Quality Web Design

by Stephanie Dawson on Aug.26, 2009, under web design

Everyone sees beauty from their very own perspective. When creating a quality web design however, you must make certain that you are able to satisfy your customers perception of what beauty is as well.

The job of a website designer is one that is often two fold. A website designer is responsible for creating great designs as well as avoiding creating designs that are not attractive to the majority. This is sometimes difficult if a client insists in some of the irritating aspects of website designing.

If you are not sure of what is considered irritating, I have compiled a list of my five most irritating aspects that I hate to see in any website.

Pop Up Windows:

Many people say that pop ups have actually increase their sales, but I cant imagine how when everyone I know hates them. Pop ups are especially annoying when you are in a hurry.

Loud Flash Presentations:

Loud flash introductions is a feature that I really do not like to use, they can be a great tool for capturing your visitors attention, and at the same time be very irritating with the loud music. This is especially true for the flash intros that do not give the option of skipping the presentation.

Light Fonts On A Light Background:

Using a white text on a light background is definitely extremely annoying. You should not have to squint in order to read the content of a website.

Fonts That Are Too Big:

Fonts that are too large may work well for the creator of the website, but for most of us, it looks sort of like a preschool book.

To Much Info On One Page:

While a website that has a lot of good content is a good thing, a website that is unorganized will take make a visitor use the back browser fast. If you are going to have a lot of content, a good trick to use is drop down menus.

What one person may find to be a well designed website, someone else may find to be not so wonderful. The way to avoid creating a web design that is acceptable by most is to keep everything in moderation.
